Cascade Markets Group (CMG) is a student-led organization at Virginia Tech for students who are passionate about financial markets and driven to build meaningful knowledge about how the economy and investing work.
We’re a collaborative group of curious, motivated students who dive deep into markets, not because we have to, but because we genuinely want to understand how things move, what drives them, and what it all means. Whether it’s following interest rate trends, analyzing earnings, or debating global economic shifts, our members come ready to learn, ask questions, and challenge each other’s thinking.

Market Awareness
Every week, we break down current events and market developments across asset classes. These discussions help students connect news headlines with actual economic implications and market moves.
Investment Research
Members learn to build investment theses, use data to support ideas, and present pitches that mimic real-world buy-side or sell-side research. We introduce modeling basics, valuation techniques, and critical thinking around asset selection.
Career Preparation
Many of our members pursue roles in sales & trading, asset management, investment research, wealth management, and capital markets. We support their goals through resume reviews, interview prep, mentorship, and access to a growing network of alumni in finance.
Market Education
We teach key concepts in macroeconomics, fixed income, credit, and equity markets. From understanding the shape of the yield curve to tracking inflation data or credit spreads, our sessions are designed to build a strong foundation in market mechanics.
